“My name is Sam. I’m 17 years old, since grade school bully problems arose; I had self-esteem and self-confidence problems. Over the years, I have done things to try and stop my depression. I cut for many years, I overate, and I even thought about suicide one year. I was a wreck, coming home from school in tears and then having to deal with a great family problem; my parent’s separation which led to divorce. For many years, I’ve lived life thinking I was only on this planet to be tortured, but one great furry friend helped me to see the light.
We were referred to Meaningful Life Counseling and Coaching, Pam Kachelmeiers private practice. Meaningful Life coaches with horses to help children gain confidence and help them with disorders such as depression, and anxiety and many others.
Right away I thought Meaningful Life was the key to a new threshold. My whole life I loved animals, I was eager to find the right bond with one of the five horses.
Finally, I found the horse, his name is Dan. He has not only given me confidence, but also some of the best memories in life. I knew he was the horse when we were doing trust exercises. I was to lead him to step over swimming noodles which were livitated atop cardboard boxes. After numerous attempts and gentle persistence, Dan actually attempted! I felt like I was in the movie, when the unbelievable happened and a magical floaty feeling began to flow inside me, a flame lit. That flame was the bond between Dan and me, he had trusted me! Not one of the popular kids at school, or one of the kids who had bullied me, or the actors at school who always got the lead roles trusted me. What happened was the most magical thing ever.
God puts obstacles in our way so we can learn a life lesson from them. Dan made me stronger and a more confident person. I am ready to use what I learned from him. The flame in my heart will never die and I’ll never forget what we had.”
Side Note: This is a client I worked with in 2008, who wrote this letter and surprised me with it. It is a testimonial to her experience, encounter with a horse, and what is possible, magical in helping to heal, nurture and feel better about one’s life.
May you have a magical encounter with a horse oneday!
