“The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician.” ~Paracelsus, 16th century German-Swiss physician
I’m just coming out of a 4-day “Become an Equine Assisted Coach” training workshop with 10-beautiful students. It was such an honor to be spending time with these gifted women and gentleman from different parts of the United States, that have so much to offer, so much wisdom, love and caring hearts.
As usual the horses, these graceful creatures performed their magic and inspiration with the different hands-on individual and group activities, showing us the way how to lead and and live a much more meaningful and inspired life.
For thousands of years horses supported humankind in developing their communities, supporting the warriors into battle, pulling the carts, carriages, and plows, in the caves, trails and fields, to the different forms of physical labor, and symbolic representation of the mystical world.
Today the emphasis is shifting in that they are helping us again only on a different scale. They are inviting people back into nature, into the wild, away from their digital distractions and concrete walls, taking a break from the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced city life. Something we must do as the writing is on the wall, we must change our way of living, if we are to survive as a human species.
Science is proving that being in nature:
- Reduces mental fatigue and the distress hormones circulating in the blood
- Improves brain function
- Improves creativity
- Increases problem-solving
- Lower our heart rate and blood pressure
- Lowers incidences of depression, anxiety, heart disease, and migraines to named a few
I know it’s no secret that we need nature to thrive, as I too got caught up in the electronic and concrete world. I was one of those individuals that got sidetracked by the corporate world for a while, but then listened to the call of the wild, the call of freedom to be with the horses, where I and my ancestors evolved. I know without a shadow of a doubt that when we head out to be with the horses in nature, they are a gift to us, as they:
- Blanket us with a comforting calming effect
- Show us how to breathe deeper and live in the present moment
- Remind us that all of us are a part of nature, we are all interconnected
- Increase our feel-good endorphins
- Teach us us about patience and cooperation
- Model leading more meaningful, authentic, and playful lives
The horses and nature are just waiting for you. Do you hear the call of the horse? If so, I invite you to join me and the growing community of like-minded Equine Assisted Coaches. The next training class starts September 2018.
May you follow your calling of becoming an “Equine Assisted Coach”!
